The entire combination of dark humour, explicit erotica and episodic storytelling format against the backdrop of a plague-ravaged world points in that direction. Come to think of it, I wonder if author+artist Paolo Serpieri conceived of "Morbus Gravis" as a futuristic version of Boccaccio's "Decameron" or he pitched the story to the publisher that way. especially when it's by an Italian author.
